The last Unit of Inquiry fell under the theme of “How the World Works” and our investigation focused on simple machines. Through our study, the children participated in hands-on activities to help cognitively and visually see how things work and problem solve as a team.
探究課題的最后一個(gè)單元,我們圍繞著“世界是如何運(yùn)作的”這個(gè)主題展開學(xué)習(xí),并將學(xué)習(xí)重點(diǎn)放在簡易機(jī)器上。通過我們的學(xué)習(xí)和做動(dòng)手活動(dòng),孩子們感受到并且看到作為一個(gè)團(tuán)隊(duì)事物是如何進(jìn)行工作的和問題是如何解決的。
At the beginning of the Unit, students tuned in to the topic of simple machines. Each child made a collective fact file to share about what they already know about simple machines. Some named computers or washing machines as simple machines. After discussing what they know about simple machines, students began to read non-fiction texts about the topic to search for connections between what they know and the new information encountered. As they asked questions and learned new information, they wrote down what they learned about the six simple machines in their fact files.
在這個(gè)單元開始的時(shí)候,學(xué)生們討論了簡易機(jī)器的話題。每個(gè)孩子制作一個(gè)小冊(cè)子,分享他們已經(jīng)知道的關(guān)于基礎(chǔ)機(jī)器的知識(shí),例如電腦或洗衣機(jī)這種日常的機(jī)器。在討論了他們對(duì)簡易機(jī)器的了解之后,學(xué)生們開始閱讀關(guān)于這個(gè)主題相關(guān)的繪本,把他們所知道的知識(shí)和遇到的新知識(shí)建立聯(lián)系。當(dāng)他們提出問題,學(xué)習(xí)新的知識(shí)時(shí),他們把學(xué)到的關(guān)于這六個(gè)簡單機(jī)器的知識(shí),記錄在他們的小冊(cè)子里。
After finding out more about the six simple machines, students were faced with tasks such as:
? Moving a heavy jug of water from a low place to a high place.
? Getting an egg from a high place to a low place without cracking it.
? Finding out which tool is most effective to separate an item into two.
? Working out how to move heavy items from one side of the room to the other in the fastest way possible.
? Figuring out which simple machines can be used to help solve these problems to make the work easier.

?把一大罐水從低處搬到高處。
?把雞蛋從高處放到低處而不打破它。
?找出哪種工具最有效地將一個(gè)項(xiàng)目分成兩個(gè)。

?弄清楚哪些簡單的機(jī)器可以幫助解決這些問題,讓工作變得更容易。
Students collaborated in teams to brainstorm the most efficient simple machines to use to solve these problems. It was wonderful to observe all of their ideas and methods about how to make work easier! Many times the students found there was not just one way to solve the problems, but many ways! At last, the children took part in a scavenger hunt around the school to find simple machines in use all around them!
學(xué)生們組成小組進(jìn)行頭腦風(fēng)暴,選擇最有效的簡易機(jī)器來解決這些問題。觀察機(jī)器的運(yùn)作是如何讓工作變得更簡單和有效,這真是太棒了!很多時(shí)候,學(xué)生們發(fā)現(xiàn)解決問題的方法不止一種,而是很多種!最后,孩子們還參加了在學(xué)校周圍的尋寶游戲,尋找周圍正在使用的簡易機(jī)器!
They were so excited every time they discovered a new simple machine. It was fantastic to observe the children make connections between what we learned in the classroom and their environment. Students recorded their findings in the fact files and made conclusions about what they knew about simple machines from the beginning to what they know now. Going through the inquiry cycle they realized a washing machine or computer is not a simple machine, it is complex, but they contain simple machines that make them work.
每次發(fā)現(xiàn)新的簡易機(jī)器,他們都很興奮??吹胶⒆觽儗⑽覀?cè)谡n堂上學(xué)到的知識(shí)與他們所處的環(huán)境聯(lián)系起來,真是非常開心。學(xué)生們將他們的發(fā)現(xiàn)記錄在他們的小冊(cè)子中,并對(duì)他們從一開始到現(xiàn)在所知道的簡單機(jī)器的知識(shí)得出結(jié)論。通過一系列的探究,他們認(rèn)識(shí)到洗衣機(jī)和電腦都不是簡易機(jī)器,它是復(fù)雜的,但是正是因?yàn)橛泻喴讬C(jī)器作為其組成部件,這些復(fù)雜機(jī)器才能運(yùn)作起來。
