My passion for art drawing since I was a child made me want to study art for my undergraduate degree. The Visual Arts and Drama classes have also been my favorites throughout my four years at AIC. In my spare time, I found myself enjoy designing characters, telling stories, and bringing a whole new world to the audience.

參觀AIC的時(shí)候,我一下就被六樓濃厚的藝術(shù)氛圍征服了。隨后在與校長(zhǎng)和老師的面談中,我充分了解到了AIC的IB課程遠(yuǎn)不止于拿到好成績(jī)那么簡(jiǎn)單。它看重及培養(yǎng)的是學(xué)生們積極探究的興趣、懂得關(guān)愛(ài)的善心、勇于嘗試的動(dòng)力以及平衡生活與學(xué)業(yè)的能力。這種與我初中時(shí)截然不同的教育理念讓我對(duì)AICIB課程產(chǎn)生了極大的興趣。


When I visited AIC, I was conquered by the strong artistic atmosphere on the art floor. In subsequent interviews with the Head of School and teachers, I fully understood that AIC's IB program is much more than just getting good grades: it values and cultivates students' interest in active inquiry, caring kindness, motivation to try, and to balance life and study. This educational philosophy is so much different to my junior high school which made me very interested in AIC-IB.



AIC是一所非常尊重學(xué)生的學(xué)校。學(xué)生所提出的合理建議都會(huì)由學(xué)生會(huì)直接轉(zhuǎn)達(dá)至校長(zhǎng)進(jìn)行處理。我記得PDP3的時(shí)候,學(xué)生事務(wù)調(diào)和員就和我們討論收手機(jī)這一規(guī)則的利弊,并以非常尊重我們的態(tài)度聆聽(tīng)我們的想法。在這種學(xué)校氛圍中,學(xué)生的權(quán)力得到了尊重。同時(shí),我學(xué)習(xí)到如何合理地表達(dá)自己的需求,也學(xué)會(huì)了如何站在他人和學(xué)校的角度思考問(wèn)題。


學(xué)校能給予學(xué)生很多機(jī)會(huì)。雖然AIC規(guī)模較小,但是也因此凸顯了個(gè)體的重要性。剛來(lái)到AIC的時(shí)候,我膽小、內(nèi)向、不會(huì)爭(zhēng)取機(jī)會(huì)。在一次排球比賽中,我被“逼迫”著上場(chǎng)。盡管我們學(xué)院沒(méi)有人會(huì)排球,但是通過(guò)不斷的訓(xùn)練和團(tuán)隊(duì)合作的意識(shí),我們最終奪得了第二名的好成績(jī)。通過(guò)那次比賽,我體會(huì)到了我在團(tuán)體中的重要性,并學(xué)會(huì)主動(dòng)去抓住機(jī)會(huì)。


不僅如此,AIC提供的教育和國(guó)際本科教育方式十分相似。在AIC,很少有老師會(huì)一步一步帶著學(xué)生去學(xué)習(xí),考驗(yàn)了學(xué)生們自主探究的能力。這四年中,我學(xué)會(huì)用谷歌、YouTube去搜索我想了解的知識(shí)。這個(gè)過(guò)程不僅提升了我的搜索能力,還鍛煉了我的閱讀速度、聽(tīng)力能力和理解的準(zhǔn)確性,讓我能更容易地跟外國(guó)人溝通,并為我準(zhǔn)備標(biāo)化考試和打下了堅(jiān)實(shí)的基礎(chǔ)。


AIC is a very respectful school for students. Reasonable suggestions made by students will be forwarded to the Head of School by the student Council. I remember when I was in PDP3, the student affairs dispatcher and the staff discussed the benefits of the cell phone rule with us; we were listened to and respected. In a school like this, where I am valued, where I am empowered and allowed to think about matters from different angles is what I like most.


Although AIC is small community, it gives students many opportunities; it also highlights the importance of the individual. When I first came to AIC, I was timid, introverted, and not willing to take chances. Once in a volleyball game, I was “encouraged” to play. Although no one in our House was good at volleyball, through constant training and teamwork, we finished second. Because of that competition, I realized how important I was in the group and learned to take initiatives to seize opportunities I was presented with.


The education provided by AIC is very similar to that of international undergraduate education. At AIC, very few teachers take students to learn step by step; instead, they test the students' ability to explore independently and constantly encourage it. In the past four years, I learned to use Google and YouTube to search for the knowledge I wanted to know. This process not only improved my research skills, but also improved my reading speed, listening ability and comprehension accuracy; it made it easier for me to communicate with foreigners, and laid a solid foundation for me to prepare for standardized tests.



我印象最深的經(jīng)歷是擔(dān)任學(xué)生會(huì)主席。在此之前,我一直沒(méi)有參與過(guò)學(xué)生會(huì),所以對(duì)流程非常不熟悉。在詢問(wèn)了上屆學(xué)生會(huì)成員之后,我將學(xué)生會(huì)設(shè)定為一個(gè)收集學(xué)生意見(jiàn)、討論解決方式、并與學(xué)校溝通的服務(wù)于學(xué)生的集體。通過(guò)學(xué)生會(huì)意見(jiàn)箱和大大小小的會(huì)議,我們購(gòu)置了架子,以處理書(shū)包亂扔的問(wèn)題;我們還與多個(gè)老師溝通,以解決學(xué)生提出的建議。在2021-2022學(xué)年的開(kāi)始,我們準(zhǔn)備了為時(shí)一天的開(kāi)學(xué)典禮。早在上一學(xué)年的五月份,我們就已經(jīng)完成規(guī)劃并分配好任務(wù)。暑假期間,我也與品學(xué)兼優(yōu)的Tiffany副會(huì)長(zhǎng)撰寫(xiě)、排練演講稿并制作PPT,以求開(kāi)幕式萬(wàn)無(wú)一失。提前返校后,我們發(fā)出去多封郵件,并與各個(gè)項(xiàng)目的負(fù)責(zé)老師溝通交流,確保我們一切順利。在所有學(xué)生會(huì)成員的努力下,開(kāi)幕式圓滿舉行,并受到了諸多好評(píng),我們也感到滿滿的成就感。


My most memorable experience was serving as the Student Council President. I had never been involved in the student union before. I was very unfamiliar with it. After talking to the previous student council members, I gathered the student council as a group to serve students by collecting students' opinions, discussing solutions, and communicating with the school through the Student Council suggestion box and meetings. We purchased shelves to deal with the problem of schoolbags littering; we also communicated with multiple teachers to address suggestions made by students. At the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, we prepared the first student organized orientation for students. As early as May of the previous school year, we had finished planning and assigned tasks. During the summer vacation, I also wrote and rehearsed speeches and made PPTs with the Vice President, Tiffany, who is excellent in both character and study, so as to ensure that the opening ceremony was a success. After returning to school early, we sent out multiple emails and communicated with the teachers in charge of each project to ensure that everything went smoothly for us. Thanks to the efforts of all the members of the student union, the event was successfully held and we received a lot of praise. We also felt a full sense of achievement.



另一件難忘的事情發(fā)生于DP1我們組織的一次CAS活動(dòng)。我們的CAS項(xiàng)目旨在學(xué)習(xí)、宣傳可持續(xù)農(nóng)業(yè)發(fā)展,因此我們打算去一個(gè)農(nóng)場(chǎng)實(shí)地學(xué)習(xí)。最開(kāi)始,我們并沒(méi)有多方面考慮這個(gè)行為的影響,因此我們的計(jì)劃差點(diǎn)被CAS調(diào)節(jié)員否決。通過(guò)與老師的溝通,我們認(rèn)識(shí)到我們需要考慮安全、防疫和責(zé)任的問(wèn)題。因此,我們制定了行為準(zhǔn)則、與學(xué)校溝通這次的行程、并查看了官方防疫規(guī)定。最后,我們順利地完成了我們的計(jì)劃。這次經(jīng)歷讓我體會(huì)到個(gè)人行為背后所需要考慮的道德倫理問(wèn)題,也讓我在做出行動(dòng)之前理性思考其可能帶來(lái)的后果和影響。


Another unforgettable incident happened at a CAS event we organized in DP1. Our CAS program aimed to learn and promote sustainable agricultural development. We intended to go to a farm to learn on the ground. In the beginning, we didn't consider the impact of this behavior in many ways; unfortunately, our plan was rejected by the CAS coordinator. Through communication with teachers, we realized that we needed to consider the issues of safety, epidemic prevention and responsibility. Therefore, we developed a code of conduct, communicated with the school about this trip, and reviewed the official epidemic prevention regulations. In the end, we successfully completed our plan. This experience made me realize the moral and ethical issues that needed to be considered behind personal actions, and it also made me think rationally about the possible consequences and impacts before taking actions.

Dream school application



從小對(duì)藝術(shù)繪畫(huà)的熱情讓我想在大學(xué)期間學(xué)習(xí)藝術(shù)專(zhuān)業(yè)。在AIC的這四年中,視覺(jué)藝術(shù)和戲劇課程也一直是我的最?lèi)?ài)。在百忙之中,它們總可以讓我放松身心、釋放能量。在課余創(chuàng)作中,我發(fā)現(xiàn)自己很享受設(shè)計(jì)角色、講述故事、并把一個(gè)全新的世界展現(xiàn)在觀眾眼前的過(guò)程。因此,我選擇了動(dòng)畫(huà)這一與藝術(shù)、表演、想象力和思想都息息相關(guān)的專(zhuān)業(yè)作為申請(qǐng)方向。剛開(kāi)始聽(tīng)說(shuō)艾米麗卡爾是在我pdp3的時(shí)候,因此,我很早就開(kāi)始著手準(zhǔn)備申請(qǐng)了。在pdp4時(shí),我成功申請(qǐng)到了羅德島動(dòng)畫(huà)專(zhuān)業(yè)的夏校課程,而后因?yàn)橐咔闆](méi)法過(guò)去,上了CalArts(加州藝術(shù)學(xué)院)為期兩周的線上夏校。在夏校中,我看到了來(lái)自世界各地同齡人的畫(huà)作,也意識(shí)到了自己基礎(chǔ)的薄弱。后來(lái),我便“惡補(bǔ)”基本功,在暑假的時(shí)候每天都練習(xí)一個(gè)多小時(shí)速寫(xiě)。


My passion for art drawing since I was a child made me want to study art in college. The Visual Arts and Drama classes have also been my favorites throughout my four years at AIC. In my spare time, I found myself enjoy designing characters, telling stories, and bringing a whole new world to the audience. Therefore, I chose animation, a major that is closely related to art, performance, imagination and thought as the application direction. I first heard about Emily Carr when I was in PDP3, so I started preparing for the application very early. In the PDP4, I successfully applied for the Rhode Island animation summer school program, and then because of the epidemic, I went to CalArts (California college of the Arts) for a two-week online summer school. In the summer school, I saw paintings from my peers from all over the world, and I also realized the weakness of my foundation. Later, I "reinforced" the basic skills and practiced sketching for more than an hour every day during the summer vacation.

總體來(lái)說(shuō),我覺(jué)得準(zhǔn)備作品集最重要的是用易懂的方式準(zhǔn)確表達(dá)自己的所思所想,許多院??粗氐囊舱沁@一點(diǎn)。我會(huì)在生活中觀察并記錄有趣的事情和人物形象,畫(huà)在sketchbook上,作為我之后項(xiàng)目的靈感來(lái)源?;竟σ卜浅V匾V挥杏辛嘶竟?,才可以將自己腦海中的畫(huà)面成功地呈現(xiàn)在觀眾眼前。因此,我也經(jīng)常練習(xí)速寫(xiě)、色彩和構(gòu)圖,把他們當(dāng)作我每天必須要完成的事情。


In general, I think the most important thing in preparing a portfolio is to accurately express what you think in an easy-to-understand way, which is what many colleges are looking for. I will observe and record interesting things and characters in my life, and draw them on my sketchbook as an inspiration for my future projects. Basic skills are as important, with basic skills can you easily and clearly present the picture in your mind to the audience. I also practice sketching, coloring, and composition a lot, treating them as things I have to do every day.

AIC的學(xué)習(xí)比較強(qiáng)調(diào)思辨和自主學(xué)習(xí),能夠很好地銜接今后進(jìn)入大學(xué)的學(xué)習(xí)方式。在AIC的學(xué)習(xí)過(guò)程中,老師并不簡(jiǎn)單、直接地把知識(shí)點(diǎn)教授給學(xué)生,而是啟發(fā)式教育。老師課上把基本的知識(shí)和重點(diǎn)進(jìn)行闡述后,更加要求并鼓勵(lì)學(xué)生在課后通過(guò)教材、網(wǎng)絡(luò)自主學(xué)習(xí)和深化。這種學(xué)習(xí)方式為學(xué)生建立了自主學(xué)習(xí)的能力,為今后的大學(xué)階段打好了基礎(chǔ)。


作為學(xué)生家長(zhǎng)我感受較深的事情是孩子參加競(jìng)選學(xué)生會(huì)主席。在我的印象中,孩子屬于那種比較安靜、不會(huì)主動(dòng)表現(xiàn)自己的人,并不會(huì)熱衷于社會(huì)活動(dòng)。因此,AIC的教育模式對(duì)于孩子的益處是全方位的,除了知識(shí)本身,還強(qiáng)調(diào)冒險(xiǎn)強(qiáng)調(diào)奉獻(xiàn),有利于培養(yǎng)孩子健全的人格。


孩子今年就畢業(yè)了,她這些年的優(yōu)異表現(xiàn)和取得的成績(jī)與AIC是分不開(kāi)的。祝愿AIC越辦越好,有更多的孩子能夠享受到IB的獨(dú)特教育價(jià)值。


AIC emphasizes critical thinking and self-directed study, which can be well connected to the way of studying in universities in the future. Teachers do not simply and directly tell students the answers, but through heuristic education. After teachers expound the basic knowledge and key points in class, they further require and encourage students to learn and deepen independently through textbooks and additional research after class. This way of learning establishes the ability for students to learn independently and lays a solid foundation for the future university stage.


As a parent of a student, I feel deeply thankful that my child was the student council president. In my impression, my child is a relatively quiet person; she does not actively express herself and are not keen on social activities. AIC's educational model has all-round benefits for her. In addition to knowledge itself, AIC also emphasizes risk-taking and dedication, which is conducive to cultivating her healthy personality.


Alice will graduate this year; her outstanding performance and achievements over the years are inseparable from AIC. I wish AIC an even better future, and that more children can enjoy the unique educational value of IB.

I am very lucky and happy to be Alice Chen's roommate for three years, witnessing each other's growth step by step. At first, I just thought Alice's grades were very good and smart, but after appreciating Alice's sketch book, I realized that she is a girl who is passionate about art, good at observing things around her, and has her own unique insights into art. I still remember that no matter how busy I was, Alice would always go to the basketball court with me to sweat. So, when her persistence in art was affirmed in many ways, I was happy for her from the bottom of my heart. May we be fortunate enough to be roommates and protect the flowers and trees together. May we each be well in the future and meet at the summit!
