6月15至16日,北大附中深圳南山分校國際部一年一度的STEM活動周如期舉行。各年級應邀參賽,爭奪總冠軍。

June 15-16th saw IHS annual STEM week return; grades were asked to compete, vying for the top spot of grand champion.

STEM (Science, technology, engineering, maths) week aims to promote student interest in the sciences, an important cornerstone in the advancement of any society. Scientific interest starts in the classroom, but is cemented by hands on context, and so STEM week activities are key in pioneering the next generation of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. Now more than ever STEM engagement is crucial for encouraging participation in the sciences.
STEM(科學、技術(shù)、工程、數(shù)學)周旨在提高學生對科學的興趣,這是任何社會進步的重要基石。科學興趣從課堂開始,通過具體實踐鞏固,因此STEM周活動是開創(chuàng)下一代科學家、工程師和數(shù)學家的關(guān)鍵。現(xiàn)在比以往任何時候都更需要STEM參與,這對于鼓勵參與科學研究至關(guān)重要。
On Monday evening, grades 7-10 put forward a 6 person team of their greatest scientific minds to compete against one another in the science bowl general knowledge quiz.
周一晚上,7-10年級的學生組成了他們自己的最強科學頭腦6人小組,在科學碗常識競賽中互相比拼。
To even the playing field, Grade 7 faced off against grade 8, and grade 9 faced off against grade 10 in a quick-fire first to answer style quiz.
為了平衡賽制,7年級對8年級,9年級對10年級,進行速戰(zhàn)速決的搶答式知識競賽。
After 15 tough rounds (where each question gained 2 points, and the subsequent bonus scored 5), we were given 2 victors. 經(jīng)過15輪艱難的角逐(每題2分,隨后的附加題5分),2隊勝出。
Grade 7 comes out on top with a score of 36-23 七年級以36比23的成績名列前茅
Grade 10 narrowly wins with a score of 29-27.10年級以29比27險勝。
For our second round contest on Tuesday – scores were carried over to the airplane engineering round. Students were tested on their ability to research models, and to build effectively , accurately, and quickly.
星期二,第二輪比賽進行;第一輪比賽的得分繼續(xù)在飛機工程賽上累計。第二輪比賽測試學生研究模型的能力,以及有效、準確和快速構(gòu)建模型的能力。
Each team was asked to build 5 planes that could be used to test in 2 categories: distance, and flight duration. Once built, each grade were given 3 attempts to throw for each category.
每個小組被要求制造5架飛機,可用于兩類測試:飛行距離和飛行時間。一旦建成,每一個等級都有3次嘗試投擲。
Every team put forth some great builds, and we saw some close calls, but in the end Grade 8 came out on top with the higher scores of the night.
每個隊都取得了不起的成就,我們也看到了某些選手旗鼓相當。但最終8年級以當晚更高的分數(shù)拔得頭籌。
Grade 8 wins the engineering contest with 25pts 八年級以25分的成績贏得工程競賽
Grade 9 come second with 22pts, followed by grade 7 with 14pts, and grade 10 with 9pts.
9年級以22分位居第二,7年級以14分位居第三,10年級以9分位居第四。
Final standings saw the underdogs grade 7 finish with a HUGE 53 points. Congratulations to them on their well-deserved win.
在最后的積分榜上,7年級這隊黑馬以53分的高分位居榜首。冠軍,他們當之無愧。

- Well done to grades 7 and 10 on their victories for a tough general knowledge quiz.
- Congratulations on some of the most impressive builds of the night to grade 9 – a shame that it wasn’t quite enough.
- Well done to grade 8 on their win of the engineering challenge.

- 科技碗常識競賽頗有難度,七年級和十年級兩隊的成績值得贊賞;
- 工程建模環(huán)節(jié),9年級展現(xiàn)了一些令人印象深刻的模型——遺憾的是,完整度還不夠。
- 恭喜8年級在工程挑戰(zhàn)賽中獲勝,干的漂亮。
Lastly, we would like to thank the teachers involved in the set up and execution of a well run couple of days – thanks to Tim, Winnie and Lu for the extra overtime hours put in, the planning, and the organization.
