您們好！我很高興地宣布，亞加達(dá)國(guó)際預(yù)科已經(jīng)獲得劍橋國(guó)際官方授權(quán)提供劍橋國(guó)際普通中等教育證書（IGCSE）課程和考試，中心編號(hào)為CX133。我們已經(jīng)正式加入劍橋國(guó)際學(xué)校社區(qū)，成為全球160個(gè)不同國(guó)家大約10000所學(xué)校中的一員，也是劍橋國(guó)際在廣州認(rèn)證的第14所學(xué)校。

Dear parents,

I am delighted to announce that AlcantaInternational College has been entitled to deliver the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) curriculum and examinations with center number CX133. We have officially joined the Cambridge international school community of about 10, 000 school worldwide in 160 different countries, 14th school registered in Guangzhou.

The IGCSE is a two-year international qualification offered to students who are typically 14–16 years old. Students who attain IGCSE qualifications are not only well-educated but also adaptable and thoroughly prepared for the IB Diploma Program. In fact, many IBDP schools use Cambridge IGCSE curriculum to prepare their students for the IBDP program around the world, including China.

The aim of Cambridge IGCSE program is to instil in students attitudes, life skills and academic skills to ensure success in their next level of study. By studying the Cambridge IGCSE students become confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged. The following are five outcomes of studying Cambridge IGCSE come from “Developing the Cambridge Learner Attributes”:

Confident in working with information and ideas – their own and those of others

Responsible for themselves, responsive to and respectful of others

Reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn

Innovative and equipped for new and future challenges

Engaged intellectually and socially, ready to make a difference

The IB learner profiles are similar in that they also want students to become lifelong learners who can enter higher studies with confidence and are prepared to face all challenges that come their way.

The Cambridge approach to teachingand learning emphasisesconceptual learning.

This helps learners to gain:

Greater depth and breadth of subject knowledge.

Confidence in applying knowledge and skills in new situations.

Fluency to communicate information and their own understanding and to explain how different aspects are linked.

A level of mastery of their subject to help them progress with their learning at a higher level.

Students who complete their IGCSE examinations will receive a certificate of completion along with their scores from Cambridge which in itself is quite an achievement. Cambridge IGCSEs can be taken as individual subjects or as qualifications towards the prestigious International Certificate of Education (ICE), which is awarded for a minimum of seven IGCSE passes from different subject areas.

Students who qualify for the CambridgeICE award will be placed in one of three categories:

Distinction - Grade A or better in five subjects and grade C or better in two subjects.

Merit - Grade C or better in five subjects and grade F or better in two subjects.

Pass - Grade G or better in seven subjects.

If students achieve a grade of ‘A’ in 5 subjects and Grade C or above in two subjects, they will be awarded an IGCSE diploma with Distinction.

A wide range of IGCSE subjects are available at AIC, 21 subjects in total, providing students with a wide range of choices so that they can apply and develop their creativities in all different subject groups. We offer the following courses at AIC:

Group I: Chinese, Chinese as a Foreign Language, English Language & Literature, English as Second Language

Group II: Economics, Business Studies, Cambridge Global Perspectives

Group III:Combined Sciences, Coordinated Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Management)

Group IV: Mathematics, Additional Mathematics

Group V: Business Studies, Theatre, Music, Art and Design, Computer Science, Physical Education

Also, universities especially recognize and appreciate the ICE because this provides a broad range of subjects with international recognition for the pre-Diploma Programs. Excellent performance in IGCSE exams would be a good indicator for universities of student abilities when they apply to universities in their DP1 year (since DP results do not come out until after they have actually completed their Diploma Program. Schools like AIC, which offers ICE awards, are seen to be a school which promotes excellence. If students obtain merit or above, scholarship will be considered when applying to UK or USA universities.

The IGCSE with its emphasis on final written examinations is an ideal preparation for the more specialized IB Diploma programme. Cambridge IGCSE is designed to meet the diverse needs of an international audience. In the USA and other countries in the world, there are some universities and colleges which would consider candidates for admission who obtained good results in their IGCSEs.
