Dr. Hina Saba

Chemistry Specialist


Dr. Hina is finishing her first year at Foshan EtonHouse International School and she has had over four years of teaching experience in China. She has her Doctoral studies in Material Science with her research focus on different aspects of Chemistry. She also has a B. Ed. In teaching at Secondary Education Level. Dr. Hina is going to teach Science and Chemistry to Upper School Students. She believes that commitment and passion lead to long-life learning skills and hence model students.

In Science, we have three distinct categories in the syllabus: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This term, students undertook the biology section, which includes different aspects of living organisms, their habitats, and the impact of human activities on our environment. Along with the environmental aspect of biology, they have also studied how plants make their own food by using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water. Plants are the only producers in the food chain, and play an important role in our overall survival.

在科學(xué)課中,教學(xué)大綱中有三個(gè)科目分類分別是: 生物、化學(xué)和物理。這學(xué)期,學(xué)生們在做生物學(xué)科中,包括生物體的不同方面,它們的棲息地,以及人類活動對我們環(huán)境的影響。除了生物環(huán)境,他們還研究了植物如何利用陽光,二氧化碳和水來制造他們的養(yǎng)分。植物是食物鏈中唯一的生產(chǎn)者,對我們的整體生存起著重要作用。



In Year 8, the students have been learning about different habitats, including terrestrial and aquatic habitats. They have also learned how different animals and plants present in each habitat and have different physical features to adapt to their particular habitat. In this context, they have made 3D habitat models with animals and plants and presented how they are adapted to their particular habitat.

八年級的學(xué)生們學(xué)習(xí)生物的不同棲息地,包括陸生和水生棲息地。他們也學(xué)習(xí)不同的動物和植物如何在不同的棲息地呈現(xiàn)出不同的物理特征,以便能更好的適應(yīng)它們所在的特定的棲息地。在這種背景下,他們模擬動物和植物制作了3D棲息地模型,并展示了它們?nèi)绾芜m應(yīng)特定的棲息地。



Year 9 undertook many experiments related to determining the presence of starch in plant leaves. Plants use the process of photosynthesis to synthesize glucose, which is stored in plants as starch. The iodine test can be used to detect the presence of starch. During these experiments, students removed chlorophyll from plant leaves and then used an Iodine solution. The parts of the leaf containing the starch changed to blue or black. This activity has helped strengthen their theoretical concepts and helped them learn a range of practical skills, including the use of lab apparatus with proper safety measures.

九年級的學(xué)生們做了一些測定植物葉片中淀粉含量的實(shí)驗(yàn)。植物利用光合作用合成葡萄糖,葡萄糖作為淀粉儲存在植物體內(nèi)。碘可以用來檢測淀粉的存在。在這個(gè)實(shí)驗(yàn)中,學(xué)生們首先從植物葉片中去除葉綠素,然后用碘溶液。葉子上含有淀粉的部分會變成藍(lán)色或黑色。這項(xiàng)活動不僅有助于加強(qiáng)他們的理論概念,而且還學(xué)習(xí)了許多實(shí)際技能,包括采取安全措施使用實(shí)驗(yàn)室儀器。
