The hard work is done!

Now, we have completed that final week of our academic year, 2021/22, and this weekend many of you may be carrying out final reviews. Please make good use of your time. Most of the work should be done by now and of you have been actively taking notes and attending to challenges as the year has progressed you will likely be in good standing for the exams next week. Do what you can in the time remaining, then simply do your best. It is all anyone can ask for. I personally wish you all the success possible and look forward to seeing you all shine.

I would like to extend a special thanks to Tony, Susan, and Fiona, a group I had the pleasure to meet weekly. I enjoyed my time with you and thank you for the conversations we had together. I wish you well and I look forward next year to continuing my conversation with groups of students like this, it is very insightful and inspiring to have met you. We shared Pizza on our final meeting, and I enjoyed this time with you as well. I even specifically ordered extra cheese for you Tony. Pizzaworks! Thanks, and good luck on your exams next week.

On the cover of this week’s RDF Weekly I have included a pink carnation. This is a symbol of Oxford University tradition. At Oxford, students wear a white carnation for the first Oxford exam that they sit, a pink carnation for middle exams, and a red for the final exam. You are in the midst of exams at RDF, so I offer you this gesture as an extension from my time at Oxford. Enter your exams with confidence, calmness, and cleverness. Read questions well, use the time allotted, review your responses, and be as tidy as possible to help leave a positive impression for your teacher whom will grade these.

Most importantly, when you are done, reflect on 1) how well you had approached your academic year, 2) how well you prepared for these exams, 3) how well you did on the exams, and 4) how well you met your personal expectations. With these reflections make appropriate adjustments in the future. For now, however; it is important to use the remaining time before exams to try and work out any areas of contention that may be on the exams ahead of you. I believe in all of you. One weekend to go – use this time efficiently and effectively.

If there is a particular area or concept you are having trouble with, go back and review your notes. Recall what was said and what examples were used in class. Pretend that you are teaching this to a classmate, this particular concept that challenges you. Even go so far as to make a power point, to explain it. What is the crux of the challenge for you, break it down, dissect it, be able to explain it to someone new to the concept. Look directly at the “hard bits”, don’t look away from them. Solve them. You can do it! Solve the “hard bits”!

Good luck dear students. I have great faith in you. Do well!

Kind Regards致意
